Making the "Stones"

It is hard to justify the cost of real Curling Stones since we only get to play a handful of times a year. There are great solutions out there to make them using concrete or using milk jugs. We've experimented a bit and this is the easiest, reusable and adequate for play solution we have found so far. But still looking for better!

Water Jugs

The best solution that I have found are these water jugs. I buy eight, four for each team. Fill them halfway (otherwise they tend to roll over) and set them outside to freeze. I would love to find round jugs instead of oval, but they are close.

I use the paint from painting the targets to paint four blue and four red. I will try using food coloring in the water prior to freezing them next year and see how that looks.
